Orlando International Airport MCO is located at the southern end of the City of Orlando, Central Florida, and borders on the Beeline Expressway 528, which connects to Hwy 417 and the Florida Turnpike. The Airport is one of the 30 busiest airports in the world--given its proximity to popular attractions such as Disney World, Universal Studios, the Kennedy Space Center and numerous convention-ready hotels. Orlando Airport is served by over 50 domestic and international airlines with Delta, Southwest, US Airways and American leading the pack in the number of passengers. In an area full of renowned attractions, the attractive Orlando Airport can hold its own.

The state-of-the-art airport reflects central Florida’s sunshine and lush vegetation inside and out. The three-level Main (landside) Terminal is connected via an enclosed and elevated shuttle system to four satellite terminals with boarding gates. Orlando MCO Airport’s new Satellite 4 is especially striking with a huge skylight dome and 4,650 square feet of floor mosaics featuring Florida flora and fauna. Airline locations are divided into A-Side and B-Side of the Main Terminal. A 443-room Hyatt Regency Hotel sits atop the main terminal. Level 1 of the Main Terminal has baggage claim 28-B, bus & resort transportation, and on-airport rental car agencies Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, EZ, L&M & National. Level 2 has baggage claim carousels 20-32 and currency exchange. Level 3 has ticketing and gates, as well as restaurants/lounges, shops, post office, and elevator to parking; all four satellites have restaurant, lounge, ATMs, gift shops, telephones and companion care. The Airport uses certain terminologies like 'A-Side', 'Airside', and 'B-side', which refes to the following:

Airlines and Terminals

orlando airport terminal map, orlando airport

'A-Side' is the north side of the main (landside) terminal, with ticket counters and baggage claim, for airlines using Airsides 1 and 2
'AGT' is the Automated Guided Transit system that connects within 68 seconds the airside terminals to the main (landside) terminal
'Airside' means all four airside terminals are located around and connected to the main (landside) terminal building by the AGT system:
'Airside 1' has gates 1-29; 'Airside 2' has gates 100-129; 'Airside 3' has gates 30-5; and 'Airside 4' has gates 60-99.
'B-Side' of the terminal is the south side of the main terminal building, with ticket counters and baggage claim, for airlines using Airsides 3/4

To make your journey through the airport less stressful, follow these few tips: Check-in for departing flights is on the Departures Level (Level 3) of the Main Terminal. Check your ticket and the Departure/Arrivals Board whether you need to be on the A-side or B-side of the terminal. Domestic travelers can check in with the skycaps. You can also check in at one of the self-service kiosks inside the terminal. Once you have checked in and have your boarding pass, follow the overhead signage towards the gate from which your flight is departing. Check flight information displays for gate and departure time. Just before you board the AGT Train to the gate area you will pass through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security checkpoint. Check the overhead signage to make sure you take the right train. Its doors will automatically open when the inbound passengers have exited the train. You arrive in the hub of the Airside Terminal with facilities including bathrooms, telephones, restaurants and shops; signs will guide you to the proper wing and gate of your departure

Airport Overview

The Orlando International Airport consists of a hub-and-spoke layout with a large main terminal building and four airside concourses accessible via elevated tram systems or people movers. The main terminal building is divided into two terminals; A and B. There are passenger check-in and baggage claim facilities on both the building's north side (Terminal A), and on the building's south side (Terminal B). Both terminals share two security checkpoints, one in the West Hall leading to Airsides 1 and 2, and another in the East Atrium, leading to Airsides 3 and 4.

Airside 4 currently serves as the airport's primary international arrivals concourse, however Airside 1 also handles some international arrivals. Arriving international passengers who require immigration and/or customs clearance are processed through those checkpoints in the airside terminal where they arrive. After clearing US immigration, passengers collect their baggage and clear US customs. After clearing customs, international passengers must ride the people mover to the main terminal. Airside 4 provides escalator access directly from the customs hall to the people mover platform. This has eliminated the requirement for arriving international passengers to go through a security inspection between the customs area and the people mover, and as a result they now have the option of bringing their checked baggage with them on the people mover. Alternatively, passengers also have the option of placing their baggage on a transfer belt in the customs hall for transport to the main terminal's baggage claim. Only those passengers who are connecting to a flight in Airside 4 and airport employees, will need to go through security upon exiting customs.
