Access
From Bilbao centre, there are four possible
routes to the airport. The most direct is by the Alameda Recalde.
After La Salve bridge, on the left-hand side enter one of
the Artxanda tunnels and on exiting into the Corredor del
Txorrieri, which is the dual carriageway, the direction to
the airport is clearly indicated.
From the Plaza de Pío XII, next to
Deusto bridge, enter another of the Artxanda tunnels, whose
exit joins the one mentioned previously.
By Rontegi, take the A-8 towards Santander
until you come to a turning on the right in the direction
of Getxo. After crossing Rontegi bridge you are at the point,
on the right-hand side, where the Corredor de Txorrieri begins.
On reaching Derio, turn right towards Mungía until
you come to the right-hand turn leading to the airport.
To take the Santo Domingo route, from the
centre of Bilbao proceed towards la Salve bridge by the alameda
de Recalde. On crossing la Salve bridge, go straight on. Before
reaching the Begoña basilica, take a right turn indicated
to the airport. Go straight on until we reach a road signposted
as Aeropuerto-Bermeo. This road takes you to Santo Domingo,
from where you cannot miss the airport.
Airport Overview
Bilbao Airport (IATA: BIO, ICAO: LEBB) is
a public airport located 9 km (5.6 mi) north of Bilbao, in
the municipality of Loiu, in the Basque Country. It is the
most important airport of the Basque Country and northern
Spain, with 4,172,903 passengers on 2008 (declined by 2.7%
compared to 2007). It is famous for its new main terminal
opened in 2000 and designed by Santiago Calatrava.

in the Check-In Hall on P2 as well as one on P0 in the Baggage
Claim Hall. Tourist and business help desks are located on

Restrooms / Toilets
Toilets are located in key locations around
the terminal.
Disabled facilities / Medical Facilities
Facilities include elevator ramp access automatic
doors, wheel chairs adapted telephones and washrooms available
at both the terminals. Transport facility to and from the
airport is provided by Behindertenund Krankentransport Kaster
tel: (0)60 7481 4544). Both the terminal is equipped with
electric buggies and a wheelchair accessible bus service with
an ambulance lift runs daily.

Baggage
The airport is provided with FGS baggage service
for which reservation should be made in advance located in
the arrivals hall B of terminal 1 and arrivals hall E of terminal

also available at both the terminals, tel: (0) 69 6906 6666).
