Airport (IATA: GWY, ICAO: EICM), or Aerphort na Gaillimhe
in Irish, is located at Carnmore 9 km north of Galway
City in Ireland and is managed by Corrib Airport Limited.
Since 1998 to 2004 Galway airport doubled its passenger
numbers, carrying 230,106 passengers in 2004 and in
November of 2007 it passed the 300,000 mark. It now
handles well over 300,000 passengers each year, with
over 22,000 air traffic movements annually. On the 8th
of Oct 2007 Galway Airport welcomed its 2 millionth
passenger. Galway Airport is Ireland's fastest growing
airport with passenger numbers to increase by 400% this
year from 1998.
In
recent years there has been an increase in the volume
of private charters, NetJets being one of the more notable
frequent visitors.
From
May 2008 Nex Aviation will operate jet services to Amsterdam,
Bordeaux, Faro and Malaga, under the Aer Arann franchise
with a BAe 146, 100 seater jet aircraft. All services
will go via Waterford Airport.
